STRETCH TENTS ON HARDSTANDING

Typically stretch tents are secured using long stakes or pegs hit into the ground. It is possible to set a stretch tent up like this on hardstanding. With enough force we can pierce through tarmaccadam/asphalt surfaces. For harder ground such as concrete we can drill holes and use eyelet rawlbolts or shorter pegs. However this does end up leaving a hole in the ground which often isnt allowed by the landowners. When we aren’t allowed to peg into the ground to secure our stretch tents we often use ballast (otherwise known as weights).

Its surprising the quantity of ballast needed to secure a stretch tent. To give a full wind loading of 100kmph for one of our smaller 7.5x10.5m RHI brand stretch tents a whopping 44 tonnes of ballast is needed. For a 21x15m stretch tent its 74 tonnes of ballast needed for a full wind loading. On the lower end of the stretch tent wind loading spectrum we can set up a 7.5x10.5m with as little as 26 tonnes for a 21x15m stretch tent (giving a 55kmph wind loading rating) or 16 tonnes for a 7.5x10.5m stretch tent. It really shows how much force the pegs we usually use to secure our stretch tents can handle.

It takes some technical expertise to install the ballast correctly. This has been learnt over the last decade or so of us installing stretch tents in all sorts of locations. We use ratchet straps to attach multiple concrete blocks together to suitably secure our stretch tents. The experience we have built up over the years really sets us apart from many other companies that only have a couple of stretch tents. It also allows us to rig stretch tents in places where many others simply couldn’t.

Water ballasts are another option for securing a stretch tent. This is really only suitable when a few ballasts are needed. Filling 440000L of ballast up can take a unfeasible amount of time!

We were contacted by Bell Hall Weddings with an emergency - they were hosting a wedding, and their own stretch-tent had been eaten by mice! Not to worry, we usually have plenty of stretch tents in stock available for hire and also have our excellent team on hand who go above and beyond to create beautiful spaces for wedding ceremonies, parties or festivals, and in this case, save the day.

Teamwork

We had a great day setting up the stretch tent wedding. We couldn’t drive directly onto the site, so we had to walk carrying the stretch tent and poles to the tent site - this doesn’t phase our team, we relish any chance we get to get our muscles pumping.

The happy couple requested that the aisle went down the middle of the stretch tent, so we set up the king poles slightly off centre, and it looked fantastic. Its also possible to have two sets of king poles to mark the aisle as in this set up.

A slice of history

Because Bell Hall Estate is set in historical grounds, extra special care and attention were taken not to damage old listed walls and flower beds. The estate has been privately owned and lovingly nurtured by the Forbes Adam family for over 300 years.

HOW TO HAVE A MEMORABLE CORPORATE STRETCH TENT EVENT IN MANCHESTER

ALARMS SET

It was an incredibly early start for us at White Rose Tents to set up the Autotrader family funday at Alexander Park in Manchester, but we still loved it – especially as we all went for a greasy spoon fry up afterwards.

Autotrader planned the event to reward all of their lovely staff for another successful year and put on a fantastic day for their employees and families.

GETTING ORGANISED

We set up two of our stretch tents and provided the flooring for a whopping 500 guests. Activities included a bouncy castle , test of strength, face painting, and of course a bar – what a great set up. If we weren’t so happy doing what we do, we’d be applying for any future positions at Autotrader.

Every event is different and that’s just one of the things we enjoy about our work. For this one we had to be in and out within the day, so we arrived on site at 5 am to have it all ready by 12 noon. The event was on until 9pm and needed taking down straight afterwards as the park is a public space.

CRESKELD HALL STOP MOTION

Thanks to David for shooting the stop motion video of us setting up a 20x15m stretch tent . The tent hire was set up for a sky betting staff event at a new stretch tent event venue at Creskeld Hall, Creskeld Ln, Arthington, Bramhope, Otley LS21 1NT.

The Venue

Creskeld Hall is a old historic house built in the 1100’s and is now being set up as a new stretch tent event venue now taking bookings. You can contact them at creskeldhall@gmail.com for more information or to make a booking. Some of you may recognise the grade two listed venue as home farm from ITV’s Emmerdale . The venue has over 14,000 square meters of garden so there is a variety of places a stretch tent hire could work in. The gardens are open annually for the public to visit.

The Tricky Part

On one of out pre site checks we measured out the space and it was just big enough to fit our 20x15m tent in. When we arranged a CAT scan to look for any underground services we found some old unused power cables from the 20’s, so no problems there. The client wanted a 3.2m AV screen inside the tent so we used alternating 3.2 and 3.5m poles along one edge of the tent. This takes some thinking about as you have to ensure the tent drains correctly. We also had to ensure the guy ropes lined up next to the two entrances into the area so the stretch tent was easily accessible for the event attendee’s.

The Logistics

We had to coordinate with a number of other suppliers as it was a large event with some tight access (luckily we are well practised at reversing round corners), timing was everything. There were the hard flooring providers to make sure the flooring was in the right place. Ensuring there was enough space between the stretch tent poles for the stages and furniture and audio visual equipment. This was also true for pack down. we coordinated with the various suppliers and made a very early start to make sure we were out of the way and the flooring was ready for collection by 11am.

A STRETCH TENT WEDDING CEREMONY AT THWAITE MILLS IN LEEDS

We had fun putting this stretch tent up for a wedding ceremony at Thwaite Mills in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The bride and groom wanted a stretch tent for 100 people in the grounds of these beautiful listed buildings.

Getting Organised

We’d visited the site before for one of our pre-site checks and had to assess the underground electrics to make sure our meter long stakes didn’t interfere with anything! After measuring up we found that the spot was a perfect fit for one of our smaller stretch tents. Here is a link to the completed set up.

Here comes the bride

The happy couple naturally wanted the aisle to be the focus of the tent and we achieved this by using extra king size poles. We decorated the stretch tent with a special fairy light curtain set up to create a magical setting and we also provided the flooring . We don’t just provide stretch tents, we can also provide anything and everything you might need to go with it.

Love Island

Thwaite Mills is the ideal location for a wedding as it’s not far from Leeds city centre, and nestled on a small island in between the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the River Aire. It has a number of spaces licenced for wedding ceremonies.

If you’ve never been it’s a fully restored working water-powered mill built in 1823-25, harnessing the power of the River Aire. Nowadays it’s an industrial museum open to the public and is owned by Leeds City Council and well worth a visit.

A Leeds day out?

As well as functioning waterwheels, the mill contains a collection of machinery used at various times and visitors can have a guided tour. The manager’s house has been restored to reflect life at the mill in the 40s, before electricity was installed, and is visited self-guided.

The museum site includes a steam crane from 1946, and wildlife areas. A variety of special events are held at the museum and there is a picnic area, a shop, tea and coffee facilities.

DISCO TENT BALTER FESTIVAL

Quick little promo video from the disco/cheese stretch tent at Balter festival 2017. What a great party. One of our 10x15m tent's set up so there is space for a 5m diameter rotating disco ball dj booth. This leaves a little bit of backstage space a great backdrop for lighting and space undercover for up to 200 people dancing.
